MBBS: <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

MBBS is the basic medical degree for all specialties. Institute of Medicine was the first institute to start undergraduate medical program in Nepal. More than 1500 students have graduated since first batch had enrolled in 1978. Apart from Nepal, there were students from India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan, Thailand, Europe, Australia and USA.<\/p>\n

General Surgery in MBBS<\/b><\/p>\n

General surgery is a major component of MBBS curriculum. General surgery comprised of more than 4 months of ward postings, 150 theory lecture classes, learning in fields.\u00a0 Exams marks weight age is 12.2% of total marks.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

After completion of MBBS, the qualified doctor is expected to diagnose, manage, perform common minor surgical procedures independently and refer timely to higher centers for emergencies management of life-threatening conditions. So General Surgery Department carries a major role in shaping MBBS students. MBBS students have rotational posting in General Surgery department throughout the course except in fourth year. Brief outline of posting and role of department is as follows:<\/p>\n

1. First phase of course (First and second year)<\/h3>\n

There is provision of early exposure in General surgery in the form of communication skills and history taking in the first phase. All first-year students are divided into 4 groups and posted in 4 major departments on rotation of 3 months. Each student will come in General surgery department once in a week for 3 months.\u00a0 They are expected to learn communication skills and history taking. Similar posting will occur in second year also and students are expected to learn history taking and basic physical examination. One dedicated teacher is deputed to guide the students.<\/p>\n
