The Mission/Goal of the Department of Surgery is
- To teach, train and inspire excellence in undergraduate students (MBBS), General surgery residents (MS), and MCh Residents (Proposed: Surgical gastroenterology, Surgical Oncology, Minimal Invasive Surgery), healthcare providers, and patients, with care and respect;
- to promote innovative, high-quality patient care with optimum utilization of resources;
- to engage in research that enhances patient outcomes.
Maharajgunj medical campus has been ever expanding with addition of more and more academic activities and facilities. As the departments focus more on super specialization, the training of undergraduates and post graduates has been hampered in some way. There is a dire need to focus on General surgery to teach basic surgical skills and subjects which are very important for the clinical practice in the rural communities. This department will also provide service to the patients who come with general surgery diseases which have been occasionally ignored due to confusion amongst the forte of the specialty departments. In this regard, the department will fulfil the void in both academics and services in the institute.
The goal of the Department is to foster an environment for the optimal education of residents and medical students and to prepare them to assume their roles in scientific and medical communities.
